Heute Morgen sind wir los zu den Queen Victoria Markets, schon mal Geschenke für die daheim gebliebenen kaufen. Der Weg führte uns diesmal durch den Royal Botanic Garden. Das ist eine sehr schöne Anlage, wo u.A. viele Jogger unterwegs sind. Wäre uns aber doch etwas zu heiß zum Joggen gewesen. Unsere Einkäufe konnten wir dann zügig erledigen. Der Rückweg wurde dann doch etwas beschwerlich, da es schon sehr warm geworden war.
Wieder im Hotel haben wir dann erstmal Pause gemacht und sind dann später nach St. Kilda an den Strand. Bei der letzten Reise waren wir vom Strand sehr enttäuscht, das war aber auch dem Wetter geschuldet. Heute war der Strand gut besucht und das Wasser herrlich erfrischend. Vor dem Abend Essen bei C'N'F' in der Chapel St. haben wir dann noch bei Aldi für die nächsten Tage eingekauft. Morgen stehen dann die Dandenongs auf dem Plan und dann ist unsere Zeit in Melbourne auch schon vorbei. War absolut schön hier und jetzt verstehen wir auch, warum Melbourne die lebenswerteste Stadt ist.

This morning we are going to the Queen Victoria Markets, to buy gifts for those who stayed at home. The road led us this time by the Royal Botanic Garden. This is a very nice facility, where many joggers traveling. But for me it was too hot to jog. Our purchases could we do quickly. The way back was then but a bit difficult, because it had become very warm.
Back at the hotel we then first made pause and then later to St. Kilda to the beach. In the last trip we were very disappointed from the beach, but that was due to the weather. Today, the beach was well attended and the water very refreshening. Before dinner at C'N'F 'in the Chapel St. we then shopped at Aldi for the next days. Tomorrow the Dandenongs are on the plan and then our time in Melbourne is already over. Was absolutely beautiful here and now we understand why Melbourne is the most liveable city.

Day 5 - Mornington Peninsula Explorer
Das Wetter hat es angeboten und so sind wir losgefahren, die Mornington Peninsula zu erkunden. Von Nanette hatten wir viele Tipps bekommen, was wir uns alles ansehen sollten. Auf dem Hinweg sind wir durchgefahren mit zum Ende nach Portsea: tolle Aussichten und toller Strand.
Nach einem kurzen Stop an der Marina von Sorrento haben wir dann einmal etwas Wellness gegönnt: Peninsula Hotsprings in Rye. Es hört sich verrückt an, sich mitten im Sommer in eine heiße Quelle zu setzen. Aber es hat gut getan, war sehr entspannend. Die Anlage war toll mitten im Grünen gelegen, tolles Ambiente.
Die weiteren Highlights kamen dann auf dem Rückweg. Wirklich atemberaubende Aussichten und wunderschöne Strände. Die Aussicht über die Bucht Murrays Lookout bei Arthur's Seat war unglaublich schön. Man konnte sogar die Skyline von Melbourne am Horizont erahnen.
Weiter ging es dann die C783 direkt an der Küste entlang. Wahnsinn. Auch die Häuser dort waren traumhaft. Aber ich möchte nicht wissen, was sowas zum Beispiel in Mt. Martha Village kostet.
Letzter Stop auf dem Ausflug war in Frankston: Sand Sculpturing. Was man alles mit Sand modellieren kann, unglaublich. Thema dieses mal war die Tiere der Welt. War wunderschön anzusehen.

The weather has offered it and so we left to explore Mornington Peninsula. By Nanette we got many tips on what we should look at everything. On the way we drove through with the end to Portsea: great views and great beach.
After a short stop at the marina of Sorrento we then once indulged somewhat Wellness: Peninsula Hotsprings in Rye. It sounds crazy to sit in the middle of summer in a hot spring. But it has done well, was very relaxing. The facility was great located in the countryside, great ambiance.
The other highlights were then on the way back. Really breathtaking views and beautiful beaches. The views over the bay from Murrays Lookout at Arthur's Seat was incredibly beautiful. We could even imagine the Melbourne skyline on the horizon.
Then we went the C783 directly along the coast. Madness. The houses there were gorgeous. But I do not want to know what something costs, for example, in Mt Martha Village.
Last stop on the tour was in Frankston: sand sculpturing. What can be modeled with dry sand, incredible. Theme this time was the world's animals. Was wonderful to look at.
Then we went back home and then we have around here quite amazing for dinner and had a drink. It was a tough day, but it has been fully paid.

Day 4 - Walhalla, Eureka Skydeck 88
Heute stand eine etwas größere Tour auf dem Plan. Wir haben einen Ausflug nach Walhalla gemacht, ca. 180 km östlich von Melbourne. Das ist eine historische Goldgräberstadt, in der heute Besucher in den alten Cottages Urlaub machen können. Auf den Ort sind wir durch einen Bericht im "Spiegel" gekommen.
Die ersten 140 km ging es über den Freeway bis Moe. Die letzten 40 km war dann ein so genannter "Scenic Drive". Ganz tolle Strecken. Im Ort selbst scheint die Zeit stehen geblieben zu sein. Man fühlte sich zurück versetzt in die Zeit der Goldgräber. Der Ort ist absolut einen Besuch wert.
Zurück in Melbourne sind wir dann in die Stadt, bei Y&S gegenüber Flinders Street Station was essen. Sehr leckeres Essen, natürlich sehr großzügige Portionen.
Dann ging es zum zweiten Highlight des Tages: Eureka Skydeck 88. Dieses Erlebnis war den Eintritt zu 100 Prozent wert. In weniger als 40 Sekunden geht es mit 9m/sec. auf knapp 300 Meter zum 88. Stockwerk. Die Aussicht von da oben ist fantastisch. Sollte jeder mal gemacht haben, wenn er nach Melbourne kommt.
Was wir morgen machen, hängt vom Wetter ab. Bei gutem Wetter werden wir die Mornington Peninsula bis runter nach Portsea erkunden, ansonsten geht es in die Dandenong Ranges. Unsere Freundin Nanette hat explizite Anweisungen erteilt, was wir alles sehen müssen! Und da wir gute Urlauber sind, tun wir natürlich, was man uns empfiehlt.

Today a slightly larger tour was scheduled. We took a trip to Walhalla, about 180 km east of Melbourne. This is a historic gold mining town, visitors can take a vacation in the day in the old cottages. On the site we have come through a report in the german newspaper "Spiegel".
The first 140 km there went over the freeway to Moe. The last 40 km was then a so-called "Scenic Drive". Really great drive. In the village where time seems to stand still. One felt transported back to the time of the gold rush. The place is well worth a visit.
Back in Melbourne we went into town, at Y & S opposite Flinders Street Station to eat. Very good food, of course, very generous portions.
Then we went to the second highlight of the day: Eureka Skydeck 88. This experience was worth the entrance to 100 percent. In less than 40 seconds it goes with 9m / sec. to almost 300 meters to 88th floor. The view from up there is fantastic. Should everyone have made times when it comes to Melbourne.
What do we do tomorrow, depends on the weather. Weather permitting, the Mornington Peninsula explore the way down to Portsea, otherwise the Dandenong Ranges. Our friend Nanette gave explicit instructions about what we need to see everything! And since we are good travelers, we do, of course, what our friends recommend us.

Day 3 - Ballatrat Trip
Heute war eingewöhnen an den Linksverkehr angesagt. Hierzu hatten wir uns den Ausflug nach Ballarat ausgesucht. Gut eine Stunde Fahrt über den Freeway. Hat auch sehr gut funktioniert. Ballarat ist eine nette Stadt, schöne alte Gebäude und eine schöne Mall. Bei Coles haben wir noch etwas für den täglichen Bedarf eingekauft und sind dann zum Sovereign Hill. Aber: 52,-AUD Eintritt/Person waren uns dann doch etwas zu heftig. Haben uns dann für einen Besuch im "Gold Museum" entschieden. Das war sehr informativ. Wir sind dann auch bald wieder zurück, da wir ja noch zur Westpac Bank mussten, unsere Banking Cards abholen. Haben wir auch noch geschafft. Am Abend sind wir dann nochmals in der Chapel Street Essen gewesen.War sehr lecker und preiswert. Jetzt planen wir die Ausflug morgen in den Dandenong N.P. Wird bestimmt interessant.

Today was accustom hip to the left-hand traffic. For this purpose we chose the trip to Ballarat. Well an hour drive on the freeway. Has also worked very well. Day 2 - Explore Melbourne and Car pick up / Melbourne entdecken und Auto abholen
Heute waren wir in Melbourne bei schönstem Wetter unterwegs, einfach nur zum schauen einkaufen. Am Visitors Center haben wir uns Prospekte und Informationen für unsere Tagesausflüge geholt. Dann zu den Victoria Markets essen und durch die Gänge streifen. War toll da und das Essen auch preiswert und lecker.
Ab 16:00 Uhr konnten wir dann unser Auto abholen. Dann passierte natürlich das, was ich eigentlich unbedingt vermeiden wollte: die erste Fahrt mit dem Outlander in der Rush Hour mitten durch die Innenstadt. Hat aber doch geklappt.
Unser erstes Ziel war dann der Aldi in South Yarra. Wir haben ihn dann auch gefunden und uns mit Mineralwasser und ein paar Süßigkeiten eingedeckt. Wir müssen doch endlich mal TimTam probieren. Parken am Hotel könnte die Tage noch ein Problem werden, da die Parkplätze hier begrenzt sind. Wenn alles voll ist hier, muss ich an der Straße einen Platz suchen. Abends haben wir dann noch um die Ecke im Entrecote ganz toll was gegessen. Hat sich gelohnt. Morgen steht eine fahrt nach Ballarat auf dem Plan. Geht einfach darum, uns an das Auto und den Linksverkehr zu gewöhnen. Am späten Nachmittag können wir dann unsere Banking Cards abholen. Hoffentlich finde ich dort einen Parkplatz.

Today we were in Melbourne with blue skies on the go, simply buy only to look. On Visitors Center, we got brochures and information for our day trips. Then eat at the Victoria Markets and roam the corridors. Was great there and the food was cheap and delicious.
From 16:00 hours we were able to pick up our car. Then of course, this happened, what I really really wanted to avoid: the first trip with the Outlander in the rush hour in the middle of the city center. But has it worked.
Our first goal was then the Aldi in South Yarra. We then found him and stocked up with bottled water and some candy. We must try TimTam. :-) Parking at the hotel could still be a problem: as long as the parking is limited here. If everything is fully here, I have to look at the street a place. In the evening we ate really great yet around the corner in what Entrecote. It was worth it. Tomorrow is a drive to Ballarat on the plan. Just go about to get used to the car and left-hand traffic. In the late afternoon we can pick up our banking cards. Hopefully I find parking in front of the bank.

Day 1 - Arrival /Ankunft
Sicher und wohlbehalten angekommen
So, nach einem langen, problemlosen Flug (mit einer Stunde Verspätung in Hamburg abgeflogen) sind wir um 06:30 Uhr Ortszeit sicher auf Tullamarine Airport bei strahlendem Himmel und angenehmen Temperaturen gelandet. Die Einreise Formalitäten dauerten auch nicht allzu lang. Mit dem Sky Bus sind wir dann in die Stadt (Southern Cross Station) und wollten dann von dort mit dem Shuttle weiter zum Hotel, wenigsten schon mal das Gepäck abstellen. Am Flughafen hatte uns man gesagt, der Hotel Transfer ist im Preis (18,-AUD/Person) mit drin. Nicht gesagt hatte man uns, dass das nur Hotels in der City betrifft. Also Taxi.
Nach 15 mins kam dann endlich ein Taxi. Der sehr freundliche Taxifahrer legte ein ordentliches Tempo vor. Jetzt hatten wir allerdings kleine Probleme bei der Angabe der Adresse unseres Hotels. Da musste dann doch erst einmal die Taxi Zentrale helfen. und so erreichten wir gegen 10:00 Uhr unserer Hotel. Der Fahrer war sogar so freundlich, den Taxameter bei 30,-AUD abzustellen. Wir hatten uns natürlich während der Fahrt unterhalten und erzählt woher wir kamen. Nette Geste.
Wir konnten sogar sofort auf unser Zimmer und erst einmal die Beine ausstrecken. Nach insgesamt 20 Stunden Flug tut das echt gut.
Danach sind wir in die Stadt, Konto Status bei Westpac klären, Geld umtauschen und dann Telefon und Mobile Wifi mit SIM Karten versorgen. War einfach und schnell bei Telstra. Wir mussten sogar nur eine bezahlen, die 2. bekamen wir umsonst. Der Rest des Tages war dannnoch etwas Sightseeing und Abendessen in South Yarra. War lecker. Um 18:00 Uhr waren wir dann allerdings so müde, da ging gar nichts mehr. Aber das hatten wir erwartet. Wird auch noch etwas dauern, bis wir uns angepasst haben.

At the airport we were told the hotel shuttle service is included in the price (18, -AUD / person). But they didn't tell us that the only concerns Hotels in the city. So taxi.
After 15 mins then finally came a taxi. The very friendly taxi driver presented a decent pace. Now, however, we had small problems when specifying the address of our hotel. Since then had together on the taxi office help. and so we reached our hotel around 10:00 am. The driver was even kind enough to turn off the meter at 30, -AUD. We talked a little while driving and told where we came from. Nice gesture.
We were even able to immediately reach out to our room and stretch the legs. After a total of 20 hours of flight doing great.
Then we are in the city, clarify account status at Westpac, exchange money and then provide telephone and Mobile Wifi with SIM cards. Was easy and fast at Telstra. We even had to pay only one Sim Card, the second we got nothing. The rest of the day was doing some sightseeing and dinner in South Yarra. Was delicious. At 18:00 we were so tired, however, because he could not continue. But we expected this. Will takte some time to adapt to local time
