Day 23 - Little Roundtrip

Heute war wieder eine kleine Rundreise angesagt. Nach Frühstück und etwas Sightseeing in Clare haben wir uns auf den Weg nach Point Pass gemacht, um dort Elke zu besuchen. Elke hatte mich im Forum angesprochen und eingeladen. Wir sind dieser Einladung natürlich gerne gefolgt. Wir wurden herzlichst empfangen und bewirtet. Es war sehr interessant, mit Elke zu reden und ihre Geschichte zu erfahren. Wir waren sehr beeindruckt. Auch von ihren Plänen, im das nächste Frühjahr mit 2 Kamelen durch den Flinders National Park zu reisen.

Wir haben uns toll unterhalten und sie hat uns sehr viel über ihre Pläne erzählt. Wirklich sehr beeindruckend.

Danach ging es weiter nach Burra. Beim letzten Mal ist meine liebe Gattin ja leider erkrankt und es begann ausgerechnet in Burra. Dieses Mal war alles in bester Ordnung und wir haben uns Burra ein wenig genauer angeschaut. ich muss sagen, es hat sich einiges geändert. Der Fluss wurde schön hergerichtet und, leider, haben sie die Straße zur Mine asphaltiert. Das fand ich allerdings nicht so sehr gelungen, da fehlte etwas das ursprüngliche. Aber egal. Ich habe noch einpaar Fotos gemacht, auch am Bahnhof. Dieses Mal war auch das Licht wesentlich besser.

Wieder zurück in Clare haben wir dann noch im Restaurant des Hotels lecker gegessen. Mal sehen, was morgen so anliegt, wir haben noch keinen genauen Plan. Was soll's, wir haben Urlaub.

Today again a small tour was announced. After breakfast and some sightseeing in Clare we made our way to Pint Pass to visit Elke. Elke approached me in the forum and invited us for a coffee. We of course accepted this invitation gladly. We were received and entertained sincerely. It was very interesting to talk with Elke and learn their history. We were very impressed. Also of their plans, in the next spring, with 2 camels traveling through the Flinders National Park.

We talked a lot and she told us a lot about her plans and progress. Very impressive indeed.

Then it was on to Burra. Last time, my dear wife was unfortunately ill and it began precisely in Burra. This time everything was fine and we looked Burra at a little more closely. I have to say it has changed a lot. The river was well presented and, unfortunately, they have paved the road up hill to the mine. I found, however, not so much succeeded because something was missing the original. But no matter. I took some new photos of the open cut and the railway station. This time also the light was much better.

Back in Clare we had a delicious dinner in the hotel restaurant. Let's see what tomorrow will present, we do not have an exact plan. What the hell, we're on vacation.

Day 22 - Clare

Erst einmal eine Ergänzung zu gestern: die offizielle Tagestemperatur in Rawnsley Park Station waren gester 41,3 °C. Zum Anderen die Sunset Tour. Diese Tour entpuppte sich als ein tolles 4WD Abenteuer mit einem Toyota Landcruiser, dem einzig wahren Outback 4WD Fahrzeug, was unser Fahrer immer wieder betonte. Zuerst ging es in eine ehemalige Schaf Scher-Halle. Wir bekamen alles erklärt, es war sehr interessant.
Dann begann das Abenteuer. Quer über die Station auf Wegen, die diese Bezeichnung nicht verdient hatten. Und unser Fahrer meinte nur : "Ach, ich fahre doch noch gar nicht 4WD". Es ging über Stock und Stein, wir wurden ordentlich durchgeschüttelt und wir bekamen einiges an Tierleben zu sehen. Der Aufstieg dann auf den Berg dann im 4WD Modus war ein absolutes Erlebnis. Da braucht es Erfahrung, das zu bewältigen. Oben angekommen hatten wir einen atemberaubenden Ausblick und konnten den Sonnenuntergang bei kühlen Getränken und leckeren Snacks genießen. Wir wurden nach dem Abstieg dann sogar auf der Station direkt vor unserer Kabine abgesetzt. Es war ein fantastisches Erlebnis, welches wir Beide nicht missen möchten.

Heute morgen sind wir dann nach Clare in das Clare Valley Motel umgezogen. Es ist ein tolles Quartier und die Kommentare bei TripAdvisor stimmen zu 100%. Unterwegs haben wir in Carrieton gestoppt, um Pause zu machen und einen Kaffee zu trinken. Das ist ein winziger Ort, aber mit Post Office, Bank, Kaffee und Shop, natürlich alles in einem Raum/Gebäude. Und natürlich kamen wir gleich mit der Besitzerin und einer Kundin ins Gespräch. Hat Spaß gemacht.

Das Wetter heute fing mit bedecktem Himmel an, wurde dann aber schnell wieder freundlich. was heißt freundlich. Es wurde wieder heiß. Sehr heiß, so um die 42°C.

Am Abend habe ich dann noch mit Elke in Point Pass telefoniert, wir werden sie morgen besuchen und danach nach Burra fahren. Dieses mal soll die Besichtigung etwas ausführlicher werden als 2010.

First of all an addition to yesterday: the official daily temperature in Rawnsley Park Station were 41.3 ° C yesterday. Secondly, the Sunset Tour: This tour turned out to be a great 4WD adventure with a Toyota Land Cruiser, the one and only Outback 4WD vehicle as our driver repeatedly emphasized. First we went to a former sheep shearing hall. We got everything explained, it was very interesting.
Then the adventure began. Right across the station in ways that were not worthy of the name. And our driver just said: "Oh, I still do not go yet 4WD". It went over hill and dale, we were shaken up and we got to see a lot of wildlife. The ascent then up the mountain then the 4WD mode was an absolute experience. At the top we had a breathtaking view and could enjoy the sunset with cool drinks and tasty snacks. After the descent to the station We were then dropped directly in front of our cabin. It was a fantastic experience, which we do not want to miss both.

This morning we are then moved to Clare in the Clare Valley Motel. It's a great neighborhood and the comments in TripAdvisor agree 100%. On the way we stopped in Carrieton to take a break and have a coffee. This is a tiny place, but with post office, bank, cafe and shop, of course, all in one room / building. And of course we again came to talk with the owner and a customer. It was fun.

The weather began today with overcast skies, but was then quickly friendly. what is friendly. It was hot again. Very hot, 42 ° C.

In the evening I then phoned Elke in Point Pass, we will visit her tomorrow and then go to Burra. This time the tour to experience Burra will be a little bit more detailed than in 2010.

Day 21 - Rawnsley Park Station

39 °C - einfach zu heiß für größere Aktivitäten. Wir waren am Vormittag in der Nähe des Campingplatzes etwas spazieren, haben dann aber bald aufgegeben. Wir haben uns dann lieber in der kühlen Cabin um die letzten Tage bis Adelaide gekümmert. Heraus gekommen ist: wir bleiben die letzten Tage in Clare und werden von dort aus die Gegend erkunden. Dann wollen wir auch jemanden in Point Pass besuchen, die mich in unserem Forum angesprochen hat.

Jetzt gleich werde ich draußen den Grill anwerfen, um unserer Abendessen zuzubereiten und danach haben wir die Sunset Tout hier in der Station gebucht. Wird bestimmt interessant.

Leider kann ich von hier keine Fotos posten, dafür ist die Internetverbindung der Station zu langsam. Das werde ich in Clare aber nachholen.

39 ° C - too hot for larger activities. We went for a walk in the morning in the vicinity of the camp something, but then soon we abandoned the walk. We then rather searched for accommodation in the cool cabin for the last few days to Adelaide. The resukt was: we stay the last few days in Clare and explore the area from there. We also want to visit someone in Point Pass, which appealed to me in our Aussie forum.

Right now I'm going to fire up the outdoor grill to cook our dinner and after that we have booked the Sunset Tout here in the station. Will be interesting.

Unfortunately I can not post photos here for the Internet connection of the station is too slow. I'll catch up in Clare.

Day 20 - Flinders Ranges National Park

Heute war die Strecke bis zur nächsten Unterkunft nicht ganz so weit, wie die letzten Tage. Wir haben in Quorn noch gut und reichlich gefrühstückt sind sind dann über Hawker Richtung Wilpena Pound losgefahren. Wir hatten beabsichtigt, in Hawker im Supermarkt noch einzukaufen, da wir in der Rawnsley Park Station nur eine Kabine mit Eigenversorgung gemietet hatten.
In Hawker angekommen standen wir dann vor einem Problem: der Supermarkt existierte nicht mehr. Im Visitor Information Center sagte man uns aber, das man sowohl in Wilpena wie auch auf der Station einkaufen kann. Glück gehabt.

Auf dem weiteren Weg haben wir dann an vielen Lookouts angehalten und Fotos gemacht. Im National Park gabs dann auch reichlich Australian Wildlife neben der Straße zu beobachten, dieses mal mehr lebende Tiere ans tote auf der Straße. In Wilpena haben wir dann noch etwas zu Essen eingekauft und sind dann weiter zu unserer Unterkunft.

Rawnsley Park Station hat sich als absoluter Glücksgriff entpuppt. Die Kabine, und wir haben nur die einfachen, sind echt Klasse. So ein tolles Bad hatten wir lange nicht mehr. Plus vollständige kleine Küchenzeile incl. allem notwendigen Geschirr. Abends haben wir dann im Restaurant hier  super lecker Lamm gegessen. Es war ein für uns Deutsche ungewöhnliches Rezept, aber sehr lecker.

Morgen steht nicht viel an. Spazieren gehen, die Landschaft und die Tierwelt beobachten und fotografieren, vielleicht auch noch mal in den Pool. Im Moment sitzen wir draußen auf unserer Veranda und genießen noch einen kühlen Weißwein und die Stille im Outback. Übrigens, der Mond strahlt hier um einiges heller als zu hause. Wir sind gespannt auf den Sternenhimmel, denn hier stört keine strahlende Großstadt nebenan. Wir sind gespannt.

Today the track was up to the next location is not quite as far as the last few days. We have had breakfast good and plentiful in Quorn are then set off on Hawker direction Wilpena Pound. In Hawker arrived we were faced with a problem: the supermarket no longer existed. In Visitor Information Center were told that you can buy both in Wilpena as well as on the station. Lucky.

On the way, we then stopped at many lookouts and took pictures. In the National Park then we met plenty of Australian Wildlife beside the road to watch, this time more live animals to the dead on the road. In Wilpena we then shopped a bit to eat and then got to our accommodation.

Rawnsley Park Station has proved to be absolute fantastic The cabin, and we have only the simple, are really great. Such a great bathroom we did not have very often. Plus complete small kitchenette incl. all necessary dishes. In the evening we ate delicious lamb in the restaurant here. It was, for us German, an unusual recipe, but delicious.

Tomorrow is not much. Walking, the scenery and watch the wildlife and take pictures, maybe one more time in the pool. Right now we sit on our porch and enjoy a cool white wine and the silence of the outback. Incidentally, the moon shines here considerably brighter than at home. We look forward to the night sky, because this does not interfere with radiant metropolis. We are excited.

Day 19 - Kleine Rundreise

Heute haben wir eine kleine Rundreise gemacht. Pt. Augusta, Horrocks Pass, Alligator Gorge und Melrose. Es war eine kurzweilige Fahrt, der Horrocks Pass und Alligator Gorge waren sehr beeindruckend. Besonders die 12 km zur Gorge waren ein Erlebnis. Wirklich sehr steile Anstiege und Gefälle-Strecken. Kein Wunder, das Gespanne da nicht lang dürfen. Morgen geht es weiter nach Wilpena. Ist mal nur eine kurze Fahrt, ca. 110 km.

Today we made a small trip. Pt. Augusta, Horrocks Pass, Alligator Gorge and Melrose. It was an entertaining ride, Horrocks Pass and Alligator Gorge were very impressive. Particularly the 12 km to the Gorge were a nice experience. Very steep ascents and descents routes. No wonder that towed vehecles are not allowed. Tomorrow we move on to Wilpena. It's just a short drive, about 110 km.

Day 18 - Broken Hill to Quorn

Nach dem Frühstück und Tanken haben wir uns auf den Weg nach Wilmington gemacht. Es ging ca. 380 km über der Barrier Highway. Wieder kaum Vegetation links und rechts des Weges, aber im typischen rot. War sehr schön anzusehen. Und wieder sehr viele tote Tiere neben und auch auf der Straße, so dass man ausweichen musste. Die Fahrt war aber nicht langweilig, da es auf der Strecke einige Ortschaften gab. Die bestanden allerdings nur aus wenigen Häusern. In einem dieser Orte gab es sogar eine 24h Tankstelle.

Nach einer Kaffeepause in Peterborough und einem Besuch im Visitor Information Center haben wir dann in Wilmington eine Übernachtungsmöglichkeit gesucht. Wir haben uns dann aber sehr schnell entschieden, doch noch weiter bis nach Quorn zu fahren. Es ist gemütlich hier,wir können ein paar Ort, welche wir besuchen wollen, bequem erreichen und das Essen ist auch lecker. Der Plan für Morgen beinhalten Pt. Augusta, Alligator Gorge, Horrocks Pass und Mt. Remarkable.

After breakfast and refueling we made our way to Wilmington. It was about 380 km on the Barrier Highway. Again no vegetation left and right of the path, but in typical red. Was very nice to look at. And again a lot of dead animals beside and even on the road, so you had to dodge. But the trip was not boring because there were some places on the track. The pass, however, only a few houses. In one of these places there was even a 24 hour petrol station.

After a coffee break in Peterborough and a visit to the Visitor Information Center, we then searched in Wilmington a place to stay. But we then decided very quickly to go up to Quorn. It's comfortable, we can get some place that we want to visit, easily accessible and the food is also delicious. The plan for tomorrow include Pt. Augusta, Alligator Gorge, Horrocks Pass and Mt. Remarkable.

Day 17 - Broken Hill & Silverton

Heute hatten wir eine Erfahrung der angenehmen Art. Es ging 20 km aus der Stadt raus nach Silverton. Auf dem Weg dorthin links und rechts wiederum nur weites Land. Der Ort selbst hat nicht mehr als 20 Häuser, viele davon Galerien, ein Cafe, ein Hotel. Wir sind zuerst noch 5 km weiter zum Mundi Mundi Lookout. Die Aussicht in die Weiten des Outback dort oben waren atemberaubend schön.

Ich habe dann noch etwas im Ort selbst fotografiert. Tolle Motive. u.a. das Mad Max 2 Museum. Ist wohl zum Teil dort gedreht wurden.

Danach sind wir zurück nach Broken Hill und haben dort weiter fotografiert.

Neben den schönen Gebäuden gabs noch ein Eisenbahnmuseum und eine Ausstellung zum Bergbau hier. Am Abend haben wir im Astra Hotel zu Abend gegessen - leckere Steaks.

Letztes Event des Tages sollte der Sonnenuntergang um 20:00 Uhr im "Living Desert" mit seinen Skulpturen sein. Haben wir durch das Essen leider um ein paar Minuten verpasst, es war aber auch so sehr ansehnlich.

Morgen geht es dann weiter zur nächsten Station: Wilmington. Das sollte eine etwas kurzweiligere Fahrt werden als am Dienstag. Wir werden berichten.

Today we had an experience of the pleasant kind. It was 20 km out of town to Silverton. Along the way, the left and right turn only vast land. The place itself has no more than 20 houses, many galleries, a cafe, a hotel. We are first for 5 km to the Mundi Mundi Lookout. The view in the vastness of the Outback up there were stunning.

I then photographed something in itself. Great designs. especially the Mad Max 2 Museum. Is probably were partly filmed there.

Then we are back to Broken Hill and have continued photographed there.

Besides the beautiful buildings there was a railway museum and an exhibition on mining here. In the evening we had dinner at the Hotel Astra - delicious steaks.

Last event of the day should be the sunset at 20:00 in the "Living Desert" with its sculptures. We missed the sunset unfortunately a few minutes, but it was also so very presentable.

Tomorrow we will continue to the next station: Wilmington. This should be a little easier ride as on Tuesday. We will report.
